Hello there folks..  John here again to bring you yet another edition of the latest I have found in the technical side of alternatives.

Latest at this time - is an all electric sailboat drive.  Yes, Sailors..  replace your noisy diesel with an almost noise less electric motor.  Stone Age will be fitted with these units before we head out to sea to share the "off the grid" knowledge with the rest of the world.

They are great units because 1 - they are quiet, 2 - they don't burn any fossil fuels, 3 - when sailing, you are re-generating power back into your batteries.  A good sail at 6 - 8 knots will put a substantial amount back in.   Hey - you racers...  This thing weighs 80 lbs.  Then the batteries to run it - as little as 250 lbs, you can get rid of some serious weight here...  Remember - no more fuel tank and fuel (30 gallon tank weighs about 300 lbs with tank, fittings and accessories, your diesel with gear is another 350 lbs at least..  Let's see take out 650 lbs and put back in 300 with an electric drive system, batteries and cables..  You can eliminate 300+ lbs.  Think you'd get an advantage with that weight savings?  Bet you would ;-))

We are going through the training to install these beauties here on Vancouver Island and are actively looking for folks to have these units installed - so please give us a call 0r email if you are interested.   There are systems available for boats to 32 feet and we are working with the company to bring a system together for larger vessels - we need to.   Stone age being 60' needs the largest one they have - x 2.  We have twin Mercedes diesels in her right now..  Looking forward to getting rid of those.

Effective range depends totally on your battery bank, so it varies.  With 4 AGM 12v deep cycle batteries, rated at 225 amps, you'd get about 2 hours at hull speed.  the less power you use, the farther you go.  3 knot cruise will get you about 45 miles.

Click on the link on the sidebar to have a good look at Electricyacht.com.   Then contact us to see how easy it is to have your vessel converted.

Until next time....
